Amazon

I Love Amazon!

My kids will laugh at this post along with a lot of other young people, but I'm writing this for older folks!

If you have never ordered products online and are possibly afraid to do this, let me update you!

Amazon is one of the largest retailers online. I have personally ordered dozens of items from Amazon and have never had a disappointing transaction.

Amazon provides reviews from customers who have already purchased the item you are interested in, and the reviews are priceless.

I know a lot of the young kids online are fearless. They don't see potential trouble and appear to some of us middle aged people as not very careful of all they are doing online, like paying bills, and making purchases.

But the truth is, I feel safe doing these things! There are always going to be dishonest people trying to steal from you whether it be on the phone, a knock on your door or online, but this is no reason not to enjoy the convenience of looking up products and reviews and purchasing.

I think many people are missing a tremendous opportunity by not researching something everyday!

You have a new I Phone? Do you have any idea how that phone can be used to make things in your life so much easier. Research it!

Do you need to protect that phone, check out Amazon and read the reviews. I purchased at least 7 I phone cases on Amazon and have been happy with every purchase! I purchased my latest I pad protection on Amazon and love it.

I have purchased everything from filters to furniture! Don't let fear keep you from enjoying a whole new way of doing things. It's fun and safe.

Amazon has encrypted their purchasing area for your safety. Give it a try!
Click on the link below and see all the options just for your phone, and they are much cheaper on Amazon.

2 BLU & the Lucky Stiffs

2BLU and The Lucky Stiffs promote a sensational blend of blues, rock, funk, and gospel. For years, 2 BLU has been putting their original twists on Delta Blues when performing in an unplugged acoustic duo or trio, or bringing the funk in their electrified four- or five-piece configuration, 2BLU And The Lucky Stiffs create their own unique brew to rock your bones and soothe your soul.

From: 2blumusic

"The genesis of the band was the acoustic duo of Bruce Andrews and George Dudley, who adopted the name “2BLU”. With the addition of drums, bass, and percussion, the boys become “2BLU and The Lucky Stiffs”.

"Why the name? The guys are “Lucky” to share a mix of music, faith, and life experience with anyone who will listen. On top of that, they're a bunch of “Stiffs,” old, old dudes who can’t quit playing and wouldn't dream of quitting in the first place.
2BLU's lyrical approach frequently reflects the band's Christian faith, usually in a non-traditional format, mixing secular and Faith themes in their tunes; exactly as life mixes the everyday grind with the divine. This combination represents the roots of the Blues.
Diverse instrumentation includes custom hand-built lap steel guitars, bass guitars and hand percussion by bassist Jack Dudley of Don’t Fret Instruments."

2 Blu & the Lucky Stiffs appear regularly all across the deep south. Please check out their web sight for upcoming shows. 2blumusic.com

House Concerts

In a simpler time, during the 1930’s and 1940’s, House Concerts were very popular but began to fade as more Theaters and Music Venues came into existence.

However, in the last ten years, with the desire for hearing quality music that may not be on the radio, House Concerts are experiencing a re-birth!

House concerts can be as varied as the people that open their homes to have them.

Becka’s Place is set up so that you have the choice of bringing an appetizer to share an hour before show time and mix with other music lovers OR you may come just for the concert.
Becka’s Place is not a “museum quiet” atmosphere but neither is it a “beer joint”.
Imagine somewhere in-between!

Each artist will be different. The genre of tunes you will hear will be singer/songwriters of Roots, Blues, and Americana music.

House Concerts vary in how each place differentiates.

To learn more about Becka's House Concerts in McCalla, AL please visit her web sight: Becka's Place

A little about Becka's Mission:

My purpose is to have friends and guests that love music gather at my home for fun, food and a great evening or afternoon of entertainment. I am a simply someone that loves music and prefers to choose the atmosphere of where I listen to good, quality music. I am not an expert: I do not make recommendations; I do not write reviews; I only know what I like. In the area where I live, I have found only a handful of places that qualify for my standards and because I have many musician friends, decided to follow the concept of an era gone by and start my own series.

I want to guarantee you a concert that will be up close and personal so that when you hear a song, you’ll feel free to ask the artist, “why did you write that?” or any other question that pops up. You can chat/visit with the artist and get to know them personally.

How Stanford University Started!

This is a great story:

A lady in a faded gingham dress and her husband, dressed in a
homespun threadbare suit, stepped off the train in Boston, and walked
timidly without an appointment into the Harvard University
President's outer office.

The secretary could tell in a moment that such backwoods, country
hicks had no business at Harvard & probably didn't even deserve to be
in Cambridge.

"We'd like to see the president," the man said softly.
"He'll be busy all day," the secretary snapped.
"We'll wait," the lady replied.

For hours the secretary ignored them, hoping that the couple would
finally become discouraged and go away.
They didn't, and the secretary grew frustrated and finally decided to
disturb the president, even though it was a chore she always regretted.
"Maybe if you see them for a few minutes, they'll leave," she said to
him!

He sighed in exasperation and nodded. Someone of his importance
obviously didn't have the time to spend with them, and he detested
gingham dresses and homespun suits cluttering up his outer office.
The president, stern faced and with dignity, strutted toward the couple.
The lady told him, "We had a son who attended Harvard for one year.
He loved Harvard. He was happy here. But about a year ago, he was
accidentally killed. My husband and I would like to erect a memorial
to him, somewhere on campus."

The president wasn't touched. He was shocked. "Madam," he said,
gruffly, "we can't put up a statue for every person who attended
Harvard and died. If we did, this place would look like a cemetery."
"Oh, no," the lady explained quickly. "We don't want to erect a
statue. We thought we would like to give a building to Harvard."
The president rolled his eyes. He glanced at the gingham dress and
homespun suit, then exclaimed, "A building! Do you have any earthly
idea how much a building costs? We have over seven and a half million
dollars in the physical buildings here at Harvard."

For a moment the lady was silent. The president was pleased. Maybe he
could get rid of them now.

The lady turned to her husband and said quietly, "Is that all it cost
to start a university? Why don't we just start our own? " Her husband
nodded.

The president's face wilted in confusion and bewilderment.
Mr. and Mrs. Leland Stanford got up and walked away, traveling to
Palo Alto, California where they established the university that
bears their name, Stanford University, a memorial to a son that
Harvard no longer cared about.

You can easily judge the character of others by how they treat those
who they think can do nothing for them.

Computer help for the elderly

I decided to research a topic that is near and dear to my heart.

I have a 75 year old father who has purchased 2 very different laptops in the past 10 years and he still can not figure out the simple basics to using the computer and the internet.

He purchased his first laptop and got rid of it because he was so frustrated.

He purchased his second laptop approximately 3 years ago and this past father's day, I went to visit him and realized, he still could not perform basic tasks such as finding and playing his downloaded music, opening attachments to his email, locating pictures, etc.

It breaks my heart to know that while being retired, my father could benefit greatly from being on the internet and knowing how to perform basic functions.

He is not ignorant. He is college educated but to an elderly person, learning how to use the computer can be like learning a foreign language.

The rate at which baby boomers are retiring each and every day is astonishing. Learning where and how to get computer help for these individuals can be priceless if you don't have the time to sit with them everyday teaching them.

I have written a complete article on this topic with helpful solutions.
